From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Humana Press is a publisher of science, technology, and medical books and journals. Humana publishes more than 100 new books and 25 journals per year, with a distinguished back list of approximately 1,500 titles in areas such as molecular biology, neuroscience, cancer research, pathology, and medicine[1].

The company was founded in Clifton, New Jersey in 1976 by Thomas L. Lanigan and his wife, Julia Lanigan, both chemists. Humana published its first book in 1977. The company was acquired by Springer Science+Business Media in the fall of 2006 and continues to publish under the Humana imprint[2]. As a result of this merger, the editorial operations of the company have expanded significantly but remain at their current location in Totowa, NJ.

Following the research areas of interest of its founders, Humana publications are based on the most recent discoveries and developments in the areas of molecular biology and medicine. Best recognized for its major reference works, such as the Protein Protocols Handbook, Principles of Molecular Medicine, Ludwig's Handbook of Autopsy Practice, Essentials of Anatomic Pathology, and the Handbook of Environmental Engineering. Humana’s flagship product remains the industry leading protocol source, the Methods in Molecular Biology book series. The popular series has produced more than 400 published volumes, more than 14,000 individual protocols, and an extensive online database, Springer Protocols, under the guidance of series editor John Walker.
