Beliefs
We believe that all people should have: Security of life - Security of property - Security of religious beliefs - Security of education - Security of family
Our humble origins began in a one bedroom flat in the city of Manchester. Initially, we started out with just a handful of orphans on a sponsorship programme and now we look after over 33,000 orphaned children.
During the early 1990s the conflict in the Balkans was going unnoticed by many news and aid agencies. Human Appeal responded immediately and made a significant impact in the region. We helped many people in Bosnia, Albania and Kosovo when they were facing tragedy then and we continue to support people in the region through family and orphan sponsorship.
We have played a major role in providing aid to Africa. After the earthquake in Algeria and Morocco we responded quickly with our Emergency Projects. We have been particularly active in Niger – one of the poorest countries in the world – and the Sudan, as well as in the Horn of Africa (Somalia and Ethiopia). Our work has also extended into Kenya, Senegal and Mauritania in order to combat the devastating impact of drought and famine.
The Middle East is rarely out of the news after years of conflicts and crises. This is particularly true of Palestine, Iraq and Lebanon. We have provided numerous aid and emergency projects to these countries and, at one stage in 2004, we even had 25 huge trucks - containing vital medical aid - going into Iraq via Jordan. Since 2000 Palestine has been a major focus for our relief efforts. Orphan and family sponsorships, food and medical relief, and our various Ramadan projects form the bulk of our work here.
As we have grown since 1991 we have included the Indian sub-continent in our relief efforts: India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Kashmir and Afghanistan. India has received many projects from Human Appeal, in particular major Water projects. After the earthquake in Gujarat in 2001 we provided a huge water tank, which now provides safe, clean water to over 25,000 people. In Bangladesh we built an orphanage in Bhola, which supports 250 children, as well as maintaining aid for many more orphans.
The 2004 Boxing Day Tsunami attracted our assistance dramatically. We established many projects in the aftermath of this disaster and, unlike many other agencies, we have remained in the region. In Indonesia, the country most afflicted by the Tsunami, we set-up various Income Generation projects in order to re-ignite the devastated economy.
We would not have been able to help millions of affected people without the fantastic support of our donors. They have enabled us to build and expand a vast network of local, national, and international field offices, helping Human Appeal to provide immediate relief whenever it is needed. We have truly been blessed with a team of sincere and dedicated trustees, staff, volunteers, and donors. Thank you.
We would like to add that 100% of your donations go directly into helping deprived and afflicted people through our projects. We do not take any overheads or administrative costs.
We have been able to overcome all previous challenges to reach the position we are in today. With your continued moral and financial support we’ll continue to spread our assistance all over the world.
With your support we’ll continue:
Providing relief to victims of wars, natural disasters, and poverty.
Improving the quality of life of deprived communities with our education, health and social development projects.
Ensuring a secure life for orphans.
Working with other relief organisations to increase our support for victims
