Research Experience:
2004 (Summer) Pathobiology Intern
Description: • Assisted a graduate student in a lab supervised by Dr. Hixson at Rhode Island Hospital • Conducted 2D gel electrophoresis assays and analyzed the gels using Bio-Rad PDQuest computer software • Assisted in the training of graduate students in the operation of PDQuest software. • Analyzed rat tissues using Histochemistry for presence of DPP-IV positive cells using photomicrography to record data • Assisted in designing a specific activity assay to detect concentrations of DPP-IV in rat tissue using light spectroscopy • Made a contribution to an article titled “Cholangiocyte marker-positive and –negative fetal liver cells differ significantly in their ability to regenerate the livers of adult rats exposed to retrorsine” Simper Ronan, R et al.
2005 (Summer) Structure based drug design Intern
Description: • Assisted a graduate student in a lab supervised by Dr. Yeh at Brown University • Used Insight II, VMD, and various other programs to analyze the structure of β-galactosidase • Determined a possible interaction between β-galactosidase and a competitive inhibitor
2005 (Fall) Microarray Outreach Program Student
Description: • Participated in the Vermont Genetics Network’s Microarray Outreach Program • Learned the Fundamentals of RNA handing, and microarray gene chip preparation. • Learned Basic Data Mining techniques
