[edit] Story

Hugo Andore and several members of his family were prominent members of Mad Gear, although Cody outfought the elder members in a cage match in the West Side and Haggar humiliated him in the original Final Fight, which infuriated the wrestler to no end; it made him so mad that in Final Fight Revenge Andore attempted to give a televised broadcast to Haggar challenging him for the mayorship through a wrestling match, but unfortunately the broadcast was never aired. Andore and his family would continue to join Metro City's most prominent gangs for years to come, including a revived, worldwide Mad Gear in Final Fight 2 and Mad Gear's successor the Skull Cross gang in Final Fight 3. Even so, Haggar and his friends crushed each of these syndicates and Andore's hopes of glory.

At some undisclosed point within the time of those three games, Hugo decided that the criminal lifestyle was not for him. Accompanied by his friend Poison, he took up a career in professional wrestling. He later entered the third World Warrior tournament in Street Fighter III: Second Impact wanting to find a suitable tag team partner, due to his former one being mysteriously killed off by a rival. During the tournament, Hugo battled with Ryu, a traveler who is constantly perfecting his fighting skills. In that battle Hugo was hit by the Shin Shoryuken, Ryu's most powerful move, but he was not knocked out by it and continued to put on an amazing performance. Ryu may have temporarily been his tag team partner anyway, but a permanent solution was not given and again Hugo needed a partner.

Eventually, Hugo and Poison decided to start their own wrestling promotion in Street Fighter III: Third Strike, the Huge/Hyu Wrestling Army (HWA). Their main objective is to take over all of pro wrestling.

[edit] Family

The Andore (アンドレ Andore?) family is a clan of pro wrestlers modeled after André the Giant. They are also the strongest underlings in the Final Fight series. While it is clear Hugo is a member of the Andore family and Capcom has stated he appears in Final Fight, it is unclear if he's the original Andore, Andore Jr. or another family member entirely. However, there is evidence that point to him being the first Andore (who wears lavender) and Andore Jr. (who wears red) being his brother. This includes Andore Jr.'s bio states he practices many wrestling techniques with his brother and hopes to surpass him in fighting prowess.

Capcom's official info gives differing stats for Hugo and Final Fight Andore, bringing into question whether the two are the same or not, though the same book lists different profiles for characters like Akuma and Shin Akuma. Recently, an Andore appeared in the pit fights for Final Fight Streetwise, called simply "Andore" and according to several in-game characters is "legendary", leading to yet another possibility of him being Hugo.

Hugo's father, grandfather, and uncle all were last seen in Metro City with him, though none have been seen since the fall of the first Mad Gear gang. All 3 dress in a fashion similar to Hugo with color variation: Grandpa Andore (G. Andore) wears a blue outfit, Uncle Andore (U. Andore) wears dark-gray, and Father (Papa) Andore (F. Andore) wears yellow. Hugo's father is shown in a montage of the Final Fight cast to be significantly taller than his sons, and to wear glasses.

In regards to the rest of his family, Hugo has two sisters (the current whereabouts of which are unknown),[citation needed] and it is very likely Hugo has more siblings, although he never speaks of them. His mother still lives in Germany.

Hugo is stated as being the first born child.

[edit] Techniques

  • Monster Lariat: Hugo will run forward and knock the opponent to the ground with a powerful one-armed smash.
  • Giant Palm Bomber: Hugo will lean back, and slam both hands together in a powerful clapping attack. This move will destroy projectile moves, as well as cause considerable stun damage to the opponent.
  • Meat Squasher: Hugo will run forward with both arms out and attempt to grab the opponent. If he is successful, he will lift the opponent up and charge them into the wall.
  • Ultra Throw: Hugo will grab the opponent and quickly whip them into the opposite wall. This does very little damage, but it is an amazingly effective set-up for the Shootdown Backbreaker and Megaton Press moves.
  • Moonsault Press: Hugo's big command throw. He spirals the opponent into the air and comes down on top of them in a bone-crunching body press attack. This technique does a great deal of damage.
  • Shootdown Backbreaker: Hugo jumps into the air, if he touches an airborne opponent, he will land them with a backbreaker and toss them to the ground.

[edit] Super Arts

  • Gigas Breaker: Hugo's big command grab super. He performs two backbreakers, and finishes it off with a Somersault Press. This takes on the motion of a 720 degree spin of the joystick. A lot of skilled players can perform this motion while still on the ground, thus making it even more lethal than it already is. Gigas Breaker is by far, one of the most damaging super arts.
  • Megaton Press: Similar to the Shootdown Backbreaker, Hugo leaps into the air, and upon grabbing the airborne opponent, he will spin upwards with his opponent in his grasp and brutally whip them into the ground, landing on them with tremendous force shortly after.
  • Hammer Frenzy: Hugo will perform a series of powerful punches ending with his Giant Palm Bomber. This is the most versatile of his super arts as it is the only one which doesn't depend on a grab. He can delay this move by holding down the punch button, but if it is held too long the attack will not come out. Called "Hammer Mountain" in the Japanese version.

[edit] Trivia

  • Hugo was in development during the later stages of Street Fighter III: The New Generation though not selectable. This has been proved by using a memory hack with an arcade ROM. Hugo can be selected but he has no moves, his standing animation is the only sprite that is fully detailed with others looking like early cells. His stage, Munich, is also selectable with the memory hack. Hugo was fully complete and officially playable in Street Fighter III: 2nd Impact, some 6 months after the release of New Generation.
  • In the SF3 Double Impact manual, his height and weight are given in his bio as 7'2", 445lbs.
  • Hugo's look, build and name are based on professional wrestler André the Giant.
  • Hugo's likeness can be seen in the background of Guy's stages in Street Fighter Alpha 2 and Street Fighter Alpha 3 (with his manager, Poison, in the other side of the background); also in SFA3 a billboard with a picture of him appears in the top, far right corner of Cody's stage background.
  • Hugo and Alex's pose before battle is in reference to the match between André the Giant and Hulk Hogan at Wrestlemania III.
  • In the background of Hugo's stage in Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike, there are various championship belts on the floor that vaguely resemble All Japan Pro Wrestling's AJPW Triple Crown Championship.
  • In SVC Chaos: SNK vs. Capcom, the King of Fighters character Bao appears in one of Hugo's pre-fighting intros, sitting on his head. This is because Bao is implied to have fascination for wrestling, hence the pair up between these characters.
