Hughes Rudd (September 14, 1921-October 13, 1992) was a television journalist and CBS news correspondent, most notable for anchoring the CBS Morning News during the prestigious time of the Walter Cronkite era of the network in the late 1960s into the 70s. This was when CBS's morning news program was more of morning news summary similar to the format of The CBS Evening News with Walter Cronkite. At varying times Rudd was paired with another CBS anchor based in Washington; Bruce Morton, Richard Threlkeld and Lesley Stahl all took turns in the Washington chair on the morning news program.
Rudd was known for his folksy style and unimposing sense of humor, often ending his newscasts with human interest stories that sometimes made him break into a chuckle on camera. Rudd later worked for ABC before his retirement.
