Hugh McInnes

Hugh McInnes VC (1815 - 1879) was a Scottish recipient of the Victoria Cross, the highest and most prestigious award for gallantry in the face of the enemy that can be awarded to British and Commonwealth forces.

He was about 42 years old, and a gunner in the Bengal Artillery, Indian Army during the Indian Mutiny when the following deed took place for which he was awarded the VC.

During the whole of the period 14 to 22 November 1857 at the Relief of Lucknow, India, Gunner McInnes acted with conspicuous gallantry.
