Hugh Birley

Hugh Hornby Birley JP MP (21 October 1817 - 7 September 1883) was Conservative Party Member of Parliament for Manchester from 1868 to 1883.[1][2][3]

Born in Ford Bank, Didsbury, Manchester, Birley died in Didsbury and is buried in St. James's Church.[1]

His father was Joseph Burley (1782 - 1847), who was the brother of Hugh Hornby Birley, who were the sons of Richard Birley (1743 - 1812), merchant.[1]

His nephew Francis was an England international footballer who won the FA Cup three times, and his niece Caroline was an eminent geologist.[citation needed]
