Article

Hudson River State Hospital

Portion used

Cropped from original to focus on building

Low resolution?

Original was 72 dpi, already a low resolution

Purpose of use

Illustrate appearance of building in article infobox. High Victorian Gothic style is demonstrated in image, and is a key part of the reason it was designated a National Historic Landmark and is expected to be discussed as article is expanded

Replaceable?

Building is located in the middle of a 296-acre (118 ha) parcel currently off-limits to the public as it awaits redevelopment. In order to take this image, it was necessary for authors to trespass.

Other information I will be contacting the creators of this image to see if they can release it, as well as the landowners to see if I could get permission to photograph this building

List of National Historic Landmarks in New York

Portion used

Cropped from original to focus on building

Low resolution?

Original was 72 dpi, already a low resolution

Purpose of use

Illustrate appearance of building in list. High Victorian Gothic style is demonstrated in image, and is a key part of the reason it was designated a National Historic Landmark.

Replaceable?

Building is located in the middle of a 296-acre (118 ha) parcel currently off-limits to the public as it awaits redevelopment. It is not visible from any nearby accessible area. In order to take this image, it was necessary for authors to trespass. It is not reasonable to expect people to break the law to create free images (But see below).

Other information I will be contacting the creators of this image to see if they can release it, as well as the landowners to see if I could get permission to photograph this building. Should I succeed in the former instance, the image will be moved to Commons. In the latter, I will just delete the image and replace it with a free one of comparable (or hopefully even better) quality
