As of the census[1] of 2000, there were 1,637 people, 546 households, and 475 families residing in the city. The population density was 641.7 people per square mile (247.9/km²). There were 569 housing units at an average density of 223.0/sq mi (86.2/km²). The racial makeup of the city was 96.09% White, 0.79% African American, 0.37% Native American, 0.43% Asian, 1.28% from other races, and 1.04% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 3.97% of the population.
There were 546 households out of which 46.0% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 78.6% were married couples living together, 4.2% had a female householder with no husband present, and 13.0% were non-families. 10.8% of all households were made up of individuals and 3.3% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 3.00 and the average family size was 3.23.
In the city the population was spread out with 31.6% under the age of 18, 5.2% from 18 to 24, 29.0% from 25 to 44, 25.1% from 45 to 64, and 9.1% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 38 years. For every 100 females there were 103.1 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 102.7 males.
The median income for a household in the city was $69,659, and the median income for a family was $74,688. Males had a median income of $57,292 versus $31,818 for females. The per capita income for the city was $24,528. About 4.3% of families and 4.5% of the population were below the poverty line, including 5.4% of those under age 18 and 12.7% of those age 65 or over.

Hudson Oaks has been the site of two similar but unrelated family murder-suicides.
On July 16, 2002, Dee Etta Perez shot and killed her three children before using the same gun to kill herself.
On May 29, 2007, Gilberta Estrada (age 25) and her four daughters Maria Teresa Estrada, Janet Frayre, Magaly Frayre and Evelyn Frayre (ages 5 years, 3 years, 2 years, and 8 months) were found hanging in a closet in their mobile home. The 8-month-old infant was found alive and taken to Cook Children's Medical Center in Fort Worth, Texas. The sheriffs and other investigators concluded that the incident was a murder-suicide.[1] [2] The surviving infant was placed in a foster home.
