Given that the current article is as much about the Huastecan people as the Huastec language, it doesn't seem quite appropriate to add this language infobox, but I'm including it here for future use when someone is able to disentangle the two subjects. @alex 06:29, 4 May 2006 (UTC)

The Huastec site of Tamtoc is in the news, with the discovery of a monolith bearing a lunar calendar: [1]. Someone more knowledgable than I should work it into the article. --Wetman 09:00, 10 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Splitting

I propose a splitting of this article into Huastec people and Wastek language. The spelling of mayan language names it has been decided to change in accordance with the ALMG orthographies (see discussin on Talk:Mayan languages), and it is standard practice to have separate articles on ethnic groups and their language. Agreed Maunus, at the very least we need separate articles for the people and the language; and more than likely we should in general also separate out articles on the historical culture and the contemporary indigenous people, too. Also agree that the language article at least should be at Wastek language.--cjllw | TALK 00:22, 28 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Merger proposal

I think Huastecs should be merged with Huastec possibly by moving the huastec page to the plural huastecs title.Maunus 10:44, 1 December 2006 (UTC)

I agree they should be merged. I would favor "Huastec" being the article and "Huastecs" the redirect as being more appropriate and in line with other Wikipedia articles (eg, "Cherokees" is a redirect to "Cherokee"). -- Infrogmation 11:42, 1 December 2006 (UTC)

Agree with Infrogmation that Huastec is preferable to Huastecs. However, I would suggest that the article on the people be at Huastec people, the (yet-to-be-written) article on the precolumbian arch. culture at something like Huastec culture, and we make Huastec a disambig page with links to those and the Wastek language article. Huastecs could either redirect to Huastec people or to Huastec dab pg.--cjllw | TALK 11:40, 3 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Pre-Columbian Huastec

I note that the disambiguation page Huastec and some other pages have links to a non-existant "Huastec civilization" article. As this "Huastec people" article has some info on the pre-Columbian Huastec, I have made the "civilization" article a redirect to here for the time being, at least until we spin-off or creating a fresh article specifically on the civilization. -- Infrogmation 02:55, 4 August 2007 (UTC)
