The district of Huari is one of the 16 that integrates the Peruvian province of Huari in the Ancash region. The tradition says that it was founded by Juán Huarín (from where nombre) y would come his to him Maria Jiray. The Spanish foundation corresponded to the Virrey Toledo in 1572, under the name of Santo Domingo de Huari. Its creation as District were carried out during the Independence of Peru.
Nailed in the Alley of Conchucos, that runs parallel to the Alley of Huaylas, Huari shows to a singular, own beauty and panorama to be located in the western skirts of the Eastern Mountain range. The district occupies an area of 398.91 km² and its population according to the census of 1993 was of 8,915 inhabitants.
The capital of the district is the city of Huari, capital also of the province of Huari. It is located to 3,149 meters on the level of the sea.
Their Holy Patrons are the Virgin of the Rosary (the Huarina Virgin is called to him), whose supervisory celebration is celebrated the 7 of October; and Santo Domingo de Guzmán. Festividades religious additional is the Easter and Corpus Christi.
To the huarinos, in the region, one denominates "mishicanca", word to them that mishi or michi comes from the Spanish, cat and of quechua canca, in roasted Spanish; that is that the huarinos are people who eat the delicious roasted cat.
Between traditional plates of the district they emphasize Sharp of Guinea pig (traditional plate of the mountain culinaria of Peru) and the Llajhuari. Between its flora and particular fauna is the Flower of Huagancu, the cóndor, puma and the bear of eyeglasses.
Between his remarkable citizens it is possible to mention to Don Eleazar Guzmán Barrón, biochemist who in 1942 was called by the Government of the United States to integrate the Commission of Atomic Energy, interseeing outstandingly in the study and development of the atomic pump.
Main the economic activity of the district is agriculture, in special the culture of coffee, handle, apple and peach. The district is conformed by the city of Huari, 15 small villages and 22 annexes.
To few kilometers of the two city are hermozas lagoons: Purhuay and Reparen.
