HSV Handball is a team handball club from Germany, locates in Hamburg. Currently, HSV Handball competes in the German First League of Handball. The full name is Handball Sport Verein Hamburg e.V. but the club is usually called HSV Handball or HSV Hamburg.
HSV Handball is the former handball category of VfL Bad Schwartau and the HSV Lübeck, connected in 1999. In 2002 they were relocated to Hamburg in order to grow and renamed. After the relocation they had financial troubles and almost lost licence for the German First League of Handball. That changed with the arrival of Andres Rudolph as owner and his financial aid.
The Handball Sport Verein Hamburg e.V. is not a category of Hamburger Sportverein, they only have the rights to use their logo and their abbreviation, in order to get more publicity. From 2008 they will connect their junior- and minor teams as SG HSV Handball.
