[edit] Brief Introduction
Who are you? My name is Hans Petter Jansson, and I'm a Norwegian computer programmer based in Mexico City. I live here with my lovely Mexican wife, Maria Eugenia Sanchez Lopez, or Maru for short. I spend my days designing and writing Free Software for a fairly large US corporation.
Why programming? At the age of 6, shortly after my father got his first home computer, I decided to become a computer programmer. I think this was due to the fact that my father, not having a workroom at the time, kept the computer (a Commodore 64) in my room, where he'd spend countless hours writing programs that made it do stuff. He passed his enthusiasm on to me, but I realized on my own that computing was a magical kingdom, mostly unexplored and with vast potential. I wanted to harness that magic and become a wizard. It may sound silly now, but that's what I was thinking at the time, and I stuck with it. I'm still not sure if I really became a wizard or if I'm some kind of plumber.
Why Mexico City? Why not? Well, ok, you can't drink the water and sometimes you're advised against breathing the air. But apart from that... The chain of events leading up to my living here is long and slightly complex. I suppose a defining keyword is "adventure". Someday I'll tell you the rest.
