It is considered poor form to give yourself awards

Dear Hpfan9374: It is considered poor form to give yourself awards. It is also extremely suspicious when I see that the only purpose in life for 2 new users, User:Noobiemacnoss1 and user:Happyman_oz_123, is to give you awards.

Please stop giving out awards and make some solid edits to Wikipedia itself. Thank you, Madman 21:50, 20 January 2007 (UTC)

  • Madman2001, if you read the Regulations regarding service awards, you are allowed to give yourself service awards. As for Noobiemacnoss1, he's is my friend and he is considering making anime related edits, and Happyman_oz_123, I have no idea. Hpfan9374 23:25, 20 January 2007 (UTC)
Your friend "Noobiemacnoss1" has not made one single edit to an article [1]. We don't give awards to people because they are considering doing something. So I suggest you don't give him awards for "exceptional contributions" that show "enthusiasm, skill, and boldness beyond their experience" until he actually, you know, makes a contribution. Wikipedia is a serious project, not an entertainment site. Please either be constructive or go to MySpace or something. Sarah 08:44, 21 January 2007 (UTC)
  • Thank you Sarah Ewart, I was simply giving him something to look for forward to in the future for his contributions, simply The Random Acts of Kindness Barnstar, for awarding myself, and the Excellent Newcomer Award, as he showed dedication to contributing (outside Wikipedia). I was simply showing Noobiemacnoss1, what more to look forward to in his future edits. It is simply part of a Wikipedia Motivation action. Hpfan9374 09:30, 21 January 2007 (UTC)
This is just ridiculous. We don't give people Wikipedia awards for being dedicated to contributing to things outside Wikipedia. I think it would be more motivating to receive a Wikipedia award when you've actually done something here rather than for doing nothing. It's just silly praising people for things they haven't even tried to do. Please stop giving awards out to people who haven't done anything. It's not motivating and it renders the awards meaningless. You seem to be treating Wikipedia as an entertainment site. Also, what is your connection to User:Punk Boi 8? Sarah 09:46, 21 January 2007 (UTC)
  • Sarah Ewart, we do give awards for being dedicated outside Wikipedia, for motivation. Secondly, I will stop giving out awards to those who haven't contributed, though I hope you can see my point. And finnaly, my connection with Punk Boi 8, is that we are simply both part of WikiProject:Gold Coast, nothing more.. Hpfan9374 10:16, 21 January 2007 (UTC)
Thank you for agreeing to stop giving awards to people who haven't contributed. I do appreciate that very much. However, you are mistaken about giving Wiki awards to people for being dedicated to contributing outside Wikipedia. That is quite simply false. Sarah 10:41, 21 January 2007 (UTC)
  • Okay thank you for clearing it all up. Hpfan9374 11:33, 21 January 2007 (UTC)

I would be very interested, Hpfan9374, to find our where in the "regulations" it says you may give awards to yourself. Madman 14:23, 21 January 2007 (UTC)

  • Please see Wikipedia:Service awards, and read the emboldened text stating: "This is one award that is intended to be given to yourself." You can simply award yourself the badge, if you meet the eligibility requirements. Hpfan9374 23:39, 21 January 2007 (UTC)

Award

Oh, thanks!! Your barnstar went unnoticed as more people wrote me at the same time!!! Thanks again!! See you soon and good work. --Attilios 12:53, 21 January 2007 (UTC)

Image:Dtxl.gif listed for deletion

Dear uploader: The media file you uploaded as Image:Dtxl.gif has been listed for speedy deletion because you selected a copyright license type implying some type of restricted use, such as for non-commercial use only, or for educational use only or for use on Wikipedia by permission. While it might seem reasonable to assume that such files can be freely used on Wikipedia, a non-profit website, this is in fact not the case. Please do not upload any more files with these restrictions on them, because content on Wikipedia needs to be compatible with the GNU Free Documentation License, which allows anyone to use it for any purpose, commercial or non-commercial.

If you created this media file and want to use it on Wikipedia, you may re-upload it (or amend the image description if it has not yet been deleted) and use the license {{GFDL-self}} to license it under the GFDL, or {{cc-by-sa-2.5}} to license it under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike license, or use {{PD-self}} to release it into the public domain.

If you did not create this media file but want to use it on Wikipedia, there are two ways to proceed. First, you may choose one of the fair use tags from this list if you believe one of those fair use rationales applies to this file. Second, you may want to contact the copyright holder and request that they make the media available under a free license.

If you have any questions please ask at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. Thank you. —Pilotguy (radio check) 01:54, 3 February 2007 (UTC)
  • Sorry, I must have accidently clicked the wrong liscense, I have now released it into the Public Domain, as I am the creator. Thanks. Hpfan9374 06:22, 7 February 2007 (UTC)

Orphaned fair use image (Image:Oth-100.jpg)

Thanks for uploading Image:Oth-100.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable under fair use (see our fair use policy).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you.
