Page is supported by the Military history WikiProject. I created this page for Howard Johnson II as content that links to articles on the Quartermaster Corps and 507th Maintenance Company which was ambushed in 2003 during Operation Iraqi Freedom. Private Johnson was one of the fatalities of this ambush. I see no reason for deletion. Why choose just this page? Why not also Lori Piestewa which was also KIA in the 507th? Other than the fact Private Johnson was killed and a member of the 507, there is no other justification for Private Johnson to have his own Wikipedia article. I made the redirect to the 507th since that was his unit. User:Zscout370 ^{(Return Fire)} 04:07, 10 February 2007 (UTC)

I checked the article on Pvt. Piestewa; while she was a Iraqi KIA, she was the first female to die in the conflict. User:Zscout370 ^{(Return Fire)} 04:11, 10 February 2007 (UTC)

Using this logic of "firsts" then Johnson should remain as he was the first soldier from Alabama to die in this conflict. Ehrentitle 17:34, 10 February 2007 (UTC)

She had more news though as being Jessica Lynch best friend and being captured with her, soon dying after, being the first to die in each state isn't really a claim of notablity. Jaranda ^{wat's sup} 19:11, 10 February 2007 (UTC)

Again I agree to disagree and am restoring the article. There is extensive mention of Howard Johnson II on the internet. Simply being a friend of Jessica Lynch makes one notable? This really does not reflect a neutral point of view since both Lynch's and Piestewa's fame are based on firsts. First women POW since WWII and first women killed in action since Vietnam. By this logic Howard Johnson II would only be of note if he were a women or friend of Lynch. Ehrentitle 00:27, 13 February 2007 (UTC)

Being a friend of Pvt. Lynch is not notable enough for a Wikipedia article. A lot of websites are mentioning Jonhson since lists of the Iraqi dead are numerous on the Internet. The problem me and Jaranda have is this: other than being part of the 507th and dying in Iraq, what has he done to warrant an article. Our response is no and will continue with that same response. Again I believe you have missed the point. Piestewa has an article and according to Jaranda she is considered notable because she was a friend of Lynch. Shoshana Johnson is listed because of her status as first black female prisoner of war. The only reason these soldiers are considered notable are that they were women with firsts. That's why I argue that Howard Johnson II should remain because he was not just another death but the first soldier from Alabama killed in this war. It's upsetting because this article has been on Wikipedia for almost a year and now you have arbitrarily determined that it should be deleted. Ehrentitle 23:41, 13 February 2007 (UTC)

Many articles on OEF and OIF KIA's were being created and it was brought to me and Jaranda's attention via the Wikipedia IRC channels. While there have been notable combat deaths, such as the two MoH awardees, Pat Tilman, Cindy Sheehan's son and others, I am not quite sure if PFC Jonhson II meets that threshold.
