Howard Transit

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Howard Transit is the primary public transit system in Howard County, Maryland, which grew from the former ColumBus bus system in Columbia, Maryland. First Transit replaced Veolia Transport as the operating company in July 2007..

[edit] Routes

Howard Transit operates nine routes -- designated by color -- to various parts of the county and surrounding areas:

  • Brown Route -- travels from the Mall in Columbia through the Columbia villages of Oakland Mills, Owen Brown, and Kings Contrivance.
  • Green Route -- travels through the Columbia villages of Wilde Lake, Hickory Ridge, and Harper's Choice.
  • Gold Route -- travels from the Mall in Columbia through the Columbia villages of Oakland Mills and Long Reach, and ends in Jessup.
  • Orange Route -- travels from the Mall in Columbia through the Columbia villages of Hickory Ridge and Kings Contrivance.
  • Red Route -- travels through the village of Long Reach in Columbia.

All routes except Purple have one or both ends at the Mall in Columbia. The Purple Route meets the Gold and Silver Routes at the Maryland Food Center. The Red, Silver, and Brown Routes all meet at Snowden Square.

[edit] Connections to Other Systems

Howard Transit riders can transfer to systems in several neighboring jurisdictions. Pricing for transfers vary among the various systems.

Howard Transit riders can transfer to and from:

  • MARC commuter trains, at the Dorsey stop on the Camden line and the BWI stop on the Penn Line (both connect to the Silver Route).
