Hovsep Arghutian

Hovsep Arghutian (Khanasori Ishkhan, Prince, 1863, Sanahin - 1925, Paris) was an Armenian military commander and political activist.
He was born in Sanahin, Armenia, in an aristocratic family. He finished the Nersisian School in Tiflis, in 1889 he went to Western Armenia, where co-operated with the fedayee groups and Arabo. In 1897 he participated at Khanasor Battle, then was arrested and sent to Vologda (Russia). He became one of the organizers of Armenian self-defencion during the Armenian-Tatar massacres 1905-1907. He was one of the leading Armenian volunteer commanders during the WWI. An ARF Dashnaktsutiun activist, in 1919 he became a member of Armenian parliament, then became the Ambassador of Democratic Republic of Armenia in Persia.
In 1922 he moved to France.
