SuggestBot picks articles in a number of ways based on other articles you've edited, including straight text similarity, following wikilinks, and matching your editing patterns against those of other Wikipedians. It tries to recommend only articles that other Wikipedians have marked as needing work. Your contributions make Wikipedia better -- thanks for helping.

If you have feedback on how to make SuggestBot better, please tell me on SuggestBot's talk page. Thanks from ForteTuba, SuggestBot's caretaker.

P.S. You received these suggestions because your name was listed on the SuggestBot request page. If this was in error, sorry about the confusion. -- SuggestBot (talk) 19:08, 11 April 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Excessive Warnings

I noticed you made quite a few excessive warnings on the page of Andrew CP Kelley. It is my recommendation and suggestion that you perhaps breach the subject with an administration rather than make repetitive warnings which cause you to lose face before the offender. In the future, I would consider it wise to discuss with an administrator before posting repetitive warnings. This is a friendly suggestion meant only in a spirit of friendliness and cooperation. Hope all is well in Ireland. --DiamondElusive (talk) 21:32, 14 April 2008 (UTC)

  • Thanks for your note. I appreciate your comments but I don't agree. The purpose is to assure that the vandal has had a prerequisite number of warnings so that future vandalism results in a block. For this reason one warning per act of vandalism is appropriate. When someone with three or more warnings vandalizes further, I notify administrators. Until that point, administrators’ hands are tied and contacting them as you suggest is just a waste of their time and mine. Best wishes. - House of Scandal (talk) 14:11, 15 April 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Administrator Nom?

Hi. I just wondered if you've considered becoming an admin. You seem experienced enough, so I'd be happy to nominate you if you're interested. Regards. Epbr123 (talk) 17:18, 15 April 2008 (UTC)

  • I appreciate the offer of nomination and will consider it. Right now my schedule is stretched pretty thin and I wouldn't want to be an absentee admin. Thanks very much and best wishes. - House of Scandal (talk) 18:46, 15 April 2008 (UTC) PS - The "Style and prose checklist" you present on your page looks very useful. I am sure I'm guilty of a gaffe or three against it.

[edit] Sexual Cannibalism

(Re: Sexual cannibalism) What is O.R.? Thanks. You wrote it in your comments when you removed my contribution. Anil Aggrawal - Preceding unsigned comment added by Anil1956 contribs) 14:24, 16 April 2008

  • OR refers to "original research". Wikipedia's "No original research policy" is a tricky one to completely grasp. I have been guilty of violating it myself on more than one occassion but now try very hard not to do so. - House of Scandal (talk) 16:57, 16 April 2008 (UTC)
    • Many thanks. I understand it now. But what I said (females killing males after copulation lessening burden on nature) has been said by Desmond Morris in one of his books. I do not remember which one though. Even if he had not said this, it makes perfect sense to all of us, doesn't it? I am a professor of Forensic Medicine and usually cite this reason for the behavior of black widow spider. Students, although quite surprised, seem quite convinced. Well, this is not to pressurize you to put my contribution back, but just to see if a reasonable contribution can be put back. Regards Anil Aggrawal —Preceding unsigned comment added by Anil1956 (talkcontribs) 04:46, 18 April 2008 (UTC)
      • Thanks for the dialogue, I appreciate your point. However, the article has all important content referenced (or at least it did when I created it...I haven't scrutinized its entirety very lately). Adding something that you know from memory, without leaving a footnote or at least a bibliographic notation for, undermines the verifiability of the whole article. I'll be happy to examine your edit more closely later (I can't this morning). "Lessens burden on nature" confuses me...do you mean "decreases competition for food"? Also, I amiably suggest that you please sign your contributions with four little "~" squiggle marks. Yes, there are automated programs that sign for you, but signing incorrectly sends the impression that the editor doing so is especially careless, had blatant disregard for Wikipedia culture or (as I think is the case here) is just new to Wikipedia. If the latter is the case, I am happy to welcome you! House of Scandal (talk) 13:29, 18 April 2008 (UTC)

[edit] More Sexual Cannibalism

This edit summary made me cringe and laugh at the same time. APK yada yada 13:36, 18 April 2008 (UTC)

  • Last year I when I realized we did NOT have an article called "sexual cannibalism" I rushed to created it. Not many two word phrases are more provocative than that. And no, that is not a challenge to name some! - House of Scandal (talk) 13:42, 18 April 2008 (UTC)
    • Dang. I was so up for the challenge. APK yada yada 13:47, 18 April 2008 (UTC)
      • I did a double-take when reading this edit summary. All I saw was "pound" and "ass." Wikipedia, the new Manhunt. APK yada yada 20:19, 21 April 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Still More Sexual Cannibalism

This female Stagmomantis carolina is eating her mate. Sexual cannibalism occurs in roughly one quarter of all intersexual encounters of this species.
This female Stagmomantis carolina is eating her mate. Sexual cannibalism occurs in roughly one quarter of all intersexual encounters of this species.

Ok, Anil1956, I took another look at what I edited out of Sexual cannibalism. It includes this text:

It has been hypothesized that once the male has passed on his genes (as after mating), he is more or less useless from the point of view of the species as a whole. Thus it is best to have him sacrificed, so that nature's meager resources could be preserved for the new generation. Thus, in a way, the individual is sacrificed at the altar of species, which is a common biological motif throughout species.

That doesn't seem like a scientific explanation of anything. Are "nature's resources" really meager? If so, then why not gain nutrition from eating the mate (an idea you refute)? What exactly is "the altar of species"? Etctera. I think the info in that edit needs to be completely reworked and verified before reintroduction. Thanks. - House of Scandal (talk) 20:22, 21 April 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Color scheme for this page

Hi, HouseOfScandal. I happened to stumble across Wikipedia:Miscellany for deletion/User talk:HouseOfScandal, where someone nominated this talk page for deletion (!) because the colors didn't look right. Deletion is obviously not the way to go, but the colors here do make the page unreadable in some browsers (I'm using Safari on a Mac, and I get black text on a black background). This might be something you should investigate. I tried glancing at the source to see if I could easily find something amiss, like a missing </div> tag or something, but it looks like you're using some complicated table syntax that I didn't feel like wading through at the moment. If you need some help, let me know and I'll try to be more helpful. —Bkell (talk) 05:23, 23 April 2008 (UTC)

It seems to be the first line which says
{| cellspacing=0 style="width: 100%; background: #00000"
that causes the problem. If I change the background: #00000 (which should have either #000 or #000000, by the way) to background: white, then the page changes to black text on a white background, which is much more readable. —Bkell (talk) 05:33, 23 April 2008 (UTC)
  • I made the change you recommended. Please let me know if it made a difference. - House of Scandal (talk) 13:39, 23 April 2008 (UTC)
  • Yes, it's much more readable now. Thanks. I suppose you could change "white" to another color if you like, but black doesn't work well, at least in my browser. —Bkell (talk) 14:09, 23 April 2008 (UTC)
  • Thanks for advise on how to correct it. The sequence of zeroes reads as white in my browser and for over a year no one had a problem with it that I know of. Have a good day. - House of Scandal (talk) 14:20, 23 April 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Yellow Book of Lecan

Hi there. I've added a further section at the above article and hope to further improve it in time. As you were the original writer, I thought I'd ask for your opinion on my additions. Cheers. Fergananim (talk) 03:51, 24 April 2008 (UTC)

  • Thanks for the note and your interest in the article. I'll give it a close look as soon as I have an opportunity. - House of Scandal (talk) 16:35, 24 April 2008 (UTC)

[edit] It's me again Margaret

I have another DYK question. I have a hard time coming up with good hooks. I added Long View Center to the list, but I don't think the hook is very catchy. I'm not sure if the article is very noteworthy, but I was hoping you could look at the hook and tell me what you think. If you do, I'll owe you one. APK yada yada 00:04, 26 April 2008 (UTC)

NM. They picked the hook I thought was crappy. APK yada yada 16:58, 26 April 2008 (UTC)
