[edit] AfD nom for Aaron Spears

You did not create the AfD page for this article. I completed the nomination for you. You may see the page at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Aaron Spears. -- Flyguy649 talk contribs 04:00, 7 July 2007 (UTC)

Thanks, I'm still trying to get down the Deletion procedure.
Due to the timing of the creation, the log entry for the AfD was also moved to the July 7 log. --Finngall talk 04:09, 7 July 2007 (UTC)

I find using the "Preloaded debate" option that shows up in the AfD box on the page after you nominate an article is the easiest way to do the AfDs. There's a complete protocol at WP:AFD#How to list pages for deletion. Drop me a note if you have any further questions. Cheers! Flyguy649 talk contribs 04:21, 7 July 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Re: Creation of New Article

I've replied at User talk:Flyguy649#Creation of New Article. -- Flyguy649 talk contribs 04:21, 13 July 2007 (UTC)

No problem. It's definitely a good idea to see what others think. But I imagine it is very disheartening to have an article nominated for AfD or speedy deletion, especially when even articles that fail to pass the notability guidelines still take a lot of work to write... Let me know if I can help with anything else, and good luck! Flyguy649 talk contribs 01:25, 14 July 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Red Duke

Thanks for adding this to the notable Eagle Scout list. You may like to know he's a DISTINGUISHED Eagle Scout too. I've added this to the list and his article. I'll notify the Med School and maybe they'll update their website bio. Check how I worked his list entry and his article.Rlevse 00:26, 19 July 2007 (UTC)

Cool, thanks! I'm trying to beef up his, and Dr. Debakey's articles as well. --Hourick 00:32, 19 July 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Arsenal (Marvel Comics)

I noticed you mentioned this article on the Iron Man talk page, that it was an orphaned article. It might not fit well within the Iron Man article, but I noticed that on the Avengers Mansion article, Arsneal was mentioned so I made a link to that page. I'm going to expand the Arsenal article to make it more "keep-worthy". 204.153.84.10 17:51, 10 August 2007 (UTC)

[edit] "KIOL Is dead"

I am the one that made KHJK redirect to the KIOL-FM article, because at the time, Jack was still using the old KIOL call letters. I'll start working on a KHJK article a.s.a.p; because as of today they are using KHJK as their call letters. I'll start the article if you agree to help :-) Big texas lump —Preceding unsigned comment added by Big texas lump (talkcontribs) 06:39, 8 September 2007 (UTC)

I don't listen to regular radio and it was only after someone else told me about it is when I found out. I'll do what I can, though. I think the new article should contain a "see KIOL for history" or something like that. --Hourick 11:21, 8 September 2007 (UTC)

--KVST was actually originally on 99.7 FM in Conroe, but simulcast on 103.7 for the Houston area. KVST is still in operation north of houston on 99.7 FM, so it technically isn't defunct. I'll see what can be done, though. Big texas lump 00:21, 9 September 2007 (UTC)

[edit] University of Houston

There is only ONE campus of the University of Houston. The University of Houston is part of the University of Houston System, which includes three other freestanding (independent) universities.

There are four separate universities (not campuses) of the University of Houston System:

  • University of Houston (UH)
  • University of Houston–Clear Lake (UHCL)
  • University of Houston–Downtown (UHD)
  • University of Houston–Victoria (UHV)

These four schools are separate universities with their own presidents, academic programs, etc. They are not satellite campuses of the University of Houston. The University of Houston does not oversee UH–Downtown, UH–Clear Lake, and UH–Victoria.

Here is the hierarchy of the University of Houston System, which includes four independent universities):

This is the CORRECT hierarchy:

  • University of Houston System
    • University of Houston
    • University of Houston–Clear Lake
    • University of Houston–Downtown
    • University of Houston–Victoria

This is what most people (including you) think of the University of Houston, which is INCORRECT:

  • University of Houston
    • University of Houston–Clear Lake
    • University of Houston–Downtown
    • University of Houston–Victoria

A person who is admitted to the University of Houston (UH) can not attend classes at UHD, UHCL, etc. Do you understand this so far?

There is only one campus of the University of Houston (UH).

University of Houston–Downtown (UHD) is not an extension or satellite campus of UH. UH–Downtown, UH–Clear Lake, and UH–Victoria are separate universities within the University of Houston System (UHS). The University of Houston System (UHS) oversees UH, UHD, UHCL, and UHV.

I went to the University of Houston (UH) and graduated from there so I know first hand.

The official and proper name for UH is "University of Houston," NOT "UH main campus" or "UH central campus" or any other variants that most people get mixed up and confused with. "UH Central" existed back in the 70s and 80s because UH–Downtown and UH–Clear Lake WERE extension campuses of UH back then, but not anymore. They are now freestanding universities, not extension or satellite campuses of the University of Houston (UH). There is only ONE University of Houston. The others are University of Houston–Downtown, University of Houston–Clear Lake, and University of Houston–Victoria.

In summary, the university that is located off of 4800 Calhoun Rd is named "University of Houston" (not UH main campus or UH central campus).

Is any of this concept that I have explained above make sense to you? If not, please feel free to ask questions.

I went to the University of Houston, not "UH main campus" or "UH central campus". Most people get this wrong. There is only ONE "University of Houston".

[edit] UH Response

I get it that there are various campuses. But there is a distinction by using that particular name (UH-Main Campus) so not to confuse anyone else who is not from the area. --Hourick 03:16, 21 September 2007 (UTC)

You said, "I get it that there are various campuses." I hope you meant universities and not "campuses."
As I explained above, the University of Houston (UH) only has one campus, which is located at 4800 Calhoun Rd (77004). That campus is officially called "University of Houston." The University of Houston–Downtown (UHD) is a separate university with its own president, academic programs, and admission requirements. UHD is its own separate university with their own campus, just like UHCL and UHV. These three are not related or administered by UH—they are separate universities. Here is the hierarchy of the four separte universities (not "campuses") under the UH System:
CORRECT statement: The University of Houston System has four universities, with Univerisity of Houston being the flagship institution.
INCORRECT statement: The University of Houston System has one university with four campuses. (INCORRECT) This is absolutely incorrect and is usually mistaken by most people.
Another example: If some you know went to and graduated from the "University of Houston–Downtown" (UHD), then they never went to the "University of Houston" (UH) and is not a UH alumni—they would be a UHD alumni. A true University of Houston (UH) student and/or alumni would be attending or have attended/graduated from the University of Houston, which is located on 4800 Calhoun Rd.
Someone who attends UH–Downtown or UH–Clear Lake is NOT a UH student. Simple as that!
You will not find "UH-Main Campus" or "UH-Central Campus" in any publications of the University of Houston (UH). Those two "distinctions" are not recognized and incorrect per the University of Houston communications policy. There is only one "University of Houston". RJN 04:02, 21 September 2007 (UTC)

[edit] One Park Place

Hourick, didn't we have an article at one time for One Park Place, the high-rise apartment building across the street from Discovery Green? Or am I dreaming? :) Postoak (talk) 19:21, 6 April 2008 (UTC)

Ok, then I was dreaming :) If you're interested in creating some new building articles, check out List of tallest buildings in Houston. I'd like to get this to featured list status and to do this we need an article (at least a stub - see Four Leaf Towers) behind every redlinked entry. Some of the buildings are not very notable, so it will take some research and creativity to prevent it from being speedy-deleted. If you would like to help, please grab a redlink and note that you are working on it at Talk:List of tallest buildings in Houston. Thanks, Postoak (talk) 20:29, 6 April 2008 (UTC)
