[edit] rationale for the tunnel system?

What is the rationale for this tunnel system?--Soylentyellow 21:36, 20 May 2007 (UTC)

Being able to pass between buildings and city blocks without going outside during hot Houston afternoons and instantly getting buttcrack sweat. Jay77tx 00:36, 7 October 2007 (UTC)

If you have ever been to downtown Chicago during morning rush hour you would understand. You can't drive because of pedestrian traffic. If Chicago had a system like this it would make downtown life a lot easier.

[edit] NYT Article

There's a short New York Times article about the tunnel system, but I don't have time to write something about it right now. I'll save it here on the talk page for later, rather than creating cruft in the External links section of the article. Ufwuct 05:51, 29 August 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Pictures?

Some pics and illustrations would be nice. -Jaardon 20:26, 18 September 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Dead Tunnels

I will try to compile some information about closed or "dead" tunnels within the Houston DTS. If I am not mistaken, there may be older tunnels closed to the public. Jay77tx 00:40, 7 October 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Article title

Is "Houston Downtown Tunnel System" an official name? If not, the article should probably be moved to Houston downtown tunnel system. -SCEhardT 02:22, 29 November 2007 (UTC)

I don't believe there is any official name; they are just "the tunnels." There's no name given in the NYT article linked above, and, according to the same article, all the tunnels are privately owned by the respective building owners. There's no "system", and it's confusing to get around even if you have a map. I've found that most Houstonians are surprised to learn of the existence of the tunnels when I've mentioned them in conversation.--AntarcticFox (talk) 17:34, 4 March 2008 (UTC)
