Is it ever made clear why it was Barahir who succeeded his brother Bregolas as head of the house? Should it not have been Bregolas's full grown elder son, Baragund (35 years old at the time of his father's death)? Certainly Morwen seems to think that she is the heiress of the House of Bëor (and that, through her, Túrin is the heir) in the early parts of Children of Húrin, even though Beren is still alive at that point. Did Tolkien ever address this directly? john k 17:36, 26 August 2007 (UTC)

I was always also wondering about this as it was indeed never referenced by JRRT. From external point of view, this is supposingly a result of various expansions of genealogies; from internal, Barahir possibly took the leadership on himself in the circumstances of war, being more experienced etc. etc. But such suppositiongs should not be included into an article. Sure - I'm just wondering if Tolkien ever discussed it. It's certainly not in the Silmarillion, but I thought one of the HOME volumes might mention the issue. john k 20:50, 26 August 2007 (UTC)
