Houseboat is a 1958 romantic comedy film starring Cary Grant, Sophia Loren, Martha Hyer, Paul Petersen, Charles Herbert and Mimi Gibson. The movie was directed by Melville Shavelson, who also directed the original 1968 version of Yours, Mine and Ours.

[edit] Plot Summary
Tom Winters Cary Grant, has been separated from his wife for a few years. Intermittently in the children's lives, the maternal family wants to take care of the children when their mother dies in a car crash. He decided that he will take care of the children in the end. Now a single parent, he is trying to understand and raise three precocious children alone. At first, they are defiant and are concerned with his ability to parent. At the Watergate concert, the yongest boy runs off and meets Cinzia Sophia Lauren. The kids then convince their father to hire her and she eventually accepts. However, she is actually an Italian socialite who is trying to get away from her overprotective father.
While on the way to their new house outside of the city, the premises accidentally gets hits by a train. The family then moves into a houseboat. Tom then discovers that Cinzia is unable to cook, do laundry or make coffee without an expresso machine. However, her charms eventually win Tom over, but when the children are not happy about the new relationship, she leaves to rejoin her father. Tom follows her to win her back and with her father's blessing. At the wedding, the kids were at first reluctant, but join the couple and the marriage ceremony continues with the five holding hands.

Parts of the movie were filmed in Fort Washington, Maryland on the Potomac River and Piscataway Creek at the present site of Fort Washington marina.
