House of the Blackheads

House of the Blackheads (latv.:Melngalvju nams) is a building situated in old town Riga, Latvia. It was erected during the first third of the 14th century. Owners were the Brotherhood of the Blackheads Guild, a society for foreign unmarried merchants living in Riga. Major works were done in the years 1580, 1886, adding most of the ornamentations. Was bombed to a ruin June 28, 1941 by the Germans, demolished 1948. Current replica building was erected from 1995 to 1999.
