The first Roquefeuil appear around year 900 and come from the House of Barcelona, Spain, kings of Aragon. At this time they own huge lands in the south of France (Languedoc) with various nobiliary titles.
Adelais de Roquefeuil and Bernard d'Anduze (1129).
The Anduze was another powerful family which also coined money. However the son of Adelais and Bernard, Arnaud, "Contor de Nant" maintained the name of Roquefeuil. Himself and his brother Raymond, and the branches they gave, illustrated in the various wars of that times: "Guerre des Albigeois", Seventh Crusade, "Guerre de cent ans".
Arnaud gave the Lords of Versols, in Aveyron, and of Saint-Etienne de Gourgas - whose the most known member is Guillaume de Roquefeuil, signatory of the Corbeil treaty on behalf of the King Jacques of Aragon in 1258.
This branch has remained localised in France, in a region called Languedoc, as landlords, and has mainly produced, since the Revolution, medical doctors and lawyers.
The related branch of the Roccaful served the King of Aragon and participated to the “Reconquista” of the Spanish against the “Maures”. Ramon Perellos y Roccaful was “Grand Maître de l’Ordre de Malte” from 1697 to 1720.
