The unicameral House of Assembly is Dominica's legislative body.
The current House of Assembly, formed following elections held on 5 May 2005, has a total of 32 members: 21 members (Representatives) are directly elected in single member constituencies using the simple-majority (or First-past-the-post) system for a term of five years. The Representatives decide whether Senators are to be elected or appointed. If appointed, five are chosen by the president with the advice of the prime minister and four with the advice of the opposition leader. If elected, it is by vote of the Representatives. There is one ex-officio member and the remaining seat is held by the Speaker.
Political party distribution among the 21 directly elected seats is as follows:
- Dominica Labour Party (DLP) – 14 seats
- United Workers' Party (ALP) – 7seats
Alix Boyd Knights is the current Speaker of the House of Assembly.
