Hot Action Cop is an American funk rock/rap metal band. The group released their self-titled debut album on Lava/Atlantic Records in March 2003. Rob Werthner (vocalist/rhythm guitarist/songwriter/frontman) formed the band back in the 1990s with bassist Luis Espaillat, drummer Kory Knipp and Louisville guitarist Tim Flaherty. Later before the 2003 tour adding Louisville keyboardist Daniel Feese. With many musical influences (including the Bloodhound Gang, Eminem, Red Hot Chili Peppers and Limp Bizkit), he came up with plenty of songs with funky beats and lyrics about sex.

The name of the band comes from the irreverent nickname that Werthner gave the boyfriend of his ex-girlfriend after she and Werthner broke up in the early '90s. He was an NYPD officer with a feathery out-of-date haircut.

Their song 'Fever for the Flava' was featured on the soundtrack of a few films, most notably the American Wedding and Grind soundtracks (as well as appearing in episodes of the shows King of the Hill, Malcolm in the Middle and The Man Show); a version with custom lyrics (about cars instead of sex) appeared in Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit 2. It was also voted #49 on MuchMusic's list of the 50 Most Controversial Videos.

Hot Action Cop is:

  • Rob Werthner - vocals and guitar
  • Tim Flaherty - guitar
  • Juan Chavolla - bass
  • Daniel Feese - keyboards
  • Gary Shaine Horrie - drums

[edit] Possible new drummer

On the band's off MySpace page, the band member list includes a Miles McPherson (formally of the Combat Records band "Look What I Did"), noted as playing the drums for the band. Kory Knipp left the band shortly after the Hot Action Cop (2003) tour ballsniffer ended and slightly before work on the next album started. He wanted to spend more time with his family, possibly go back to school and continue to do session work for artists in the Nashville scene. Former drummer, Kory Knipp, has been in contact with Rob Werthner since seeing each other backstage at a Red Hot Chili Peppers concert. Rumor has it the two discussed playing together again, and that Kory will be playing some concert dates with HAC in the summer of 2007. Gary Shaine Horrie was the drummer for the band for some 9 months in 2007-2008.
