Wikipedia:Hosted editing

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

This is a discussion page for ideas on improving the quality of some articles in Wikipedia by having them hosted by organized editing groups. The central idea is that each hosted article will be edited only by members of an organized group, that the group will commit to maintain the article for a specified period of time, and that the group is qualified. The meaning of a "qualified group" should be the result of consensus in the Wikipedia community: examples include experts on the subject of an article, students at a university college, professional writers and biographers, and industry professionals. Bias could be a problem in hosted articles and needs to be addressed.

The following questions (more can be added) should frame this page's discussion:

  • Are hosted articles a good idea?
  • Could hosted articles reduce the enthusiasm of regular Wikipedians to edit non-hosted articles?
  • What means could be used for policing the editing groups without being so strict that nobody would want to participate?
  • Are hosted articles consistent with the purpose of Wikipedia?
  • Could individual biographers and historians be allowed to host edit, instead of groups?
  • Could companies and corporate departments participate, or would that invite too great an opportunity for bias?
  • Would there be a way for outsiders to make suggestions for the hosted articles?
  • Would a request to host an article be subject to a vote, and, if so, to continual approval of hosting by successive voting?
