Hose’s Frog, Rana hosei, is a true frog with a wide range in South-East Asia. It was named after zoologist Charles Hose.

Robust body with long, slender legs. Upperparts dark green with brown sides; underparts pale; limbs marked with dark crossbars. Tips of fingers and toes have grooved discs. Length: males 50-60 mm, females 85-100 mm. Larvae apparently lack suctorial discs. Ova cream-coloured without dark hemisphere, indicating specialised oviposition site.

Hose’s Frog has been recorded from the Malay Peninsula, Borneo, Sumatra, Simeulue and Java. It lives in and along clear, swift streams and rivers in rainforest.
