[edit] Romanians population figures
Hello Horvat Den! First I would like to thank you a lot for your understanding the figures problem in the article Romanians. You were the first to really understand what is the truth. Before, we, a couple of Romanian users we were trying to solve this problem by adding reliable sources to proove what we were saying. However, almost every of us got banned, including me.Since im blocked, please continue to defend the article as much as you can. I have some sources if you need them just contact me. There's no way that the figure gets lower than 28 mil. Thank you again! Regards, Arthur 14 October 2006
- Hi Horvat. I guess if you outline your reasons on the talk page, and try to come to a compromise with people, then things will work out. Constantzeanu can be a reasonable guy, I'm sure you'll be able to agree on something. Just make sure to cite reliable sources. —Khoikhoi 16:03, 24 October 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Number changes
Den, would you please start discussing your changes of population numbers at various articles? You change Croats every while, although the numbers are sourced and explained in the article. I guess you didn't even take a look what the article Montenegrins is about. Yes, many of those number are "inflated" as, depending on level of diaspora, they tend to include great-grandchildren who don't even speak the original language anymore (go see Irish people for a real inflation). The case is moot one way or another, but your crusade doesn't help resolving it. Duja► 10:35, 2 November 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Fair use rationale for Image:Mesaselimovic.jpg
Thanks for uploading Image:Mesaselimovic.jpg. The image description page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use.
Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.
If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

[edit] Numbers
Sure. Let me know what I should do. Dahn 13:59, 11 November 2006 (UTC)
- The first source goes against the offivcial census in Moldova; it also says that "over 2 million [live] in the United States of America and Canada" - when these two million are likely to be ethnic Romanians and non-ethnics alike. Dahn 14:02, 11 November 2006 (UTC)
- Same for the second source. The fourth source counts citizens and their foreign descendants overall, and probably counts hundreds of thousands twice. Dahn 14:04, 11 November 2006 (UTC)
- The fifth source, beside being biased (and, IMO, unauthorative), goes with the highest number possible, and then some. They do not indicate a reason behind this count, and do not say why it is two million over the highest estimate in all those other sources... Dahn 14:07, 11 November 2006 (UTC)
- The final one unwittingly explains in itself the source of errors: it again counts six million ethnics and non-ethnics alike outside of Romania; the four million "around Romania's borders" (I always enjoy the relativity of this repetitive formula) include the POV on the results of the Moldovan census. Dahn 14:11, 11 November 2006 (UTC)
(Note: the above are in reference to the sources the article uses for the total number - that is, those referenced right after the "28 million" mention. I have not looked through the other references, but I think even more flaws are present there, and those flaws also contradict the number given for Romanians inside Romania) Dahn 15:37, 11 November 2006 (UTC)
-
- I would rather discuss about hte recent issues with the numbers of Croats. --PaxEquilibrium 14:17, 11 November 2006 (UTC)
Hey, what's your take on this? Khoikhoi 02:03, 19 November 2006 (UTC)
- It appears to be sourced...what we need are sources for the 21 mil. figure. Do you have any? Khoikhoi 22:47, 7 December 2006 (UTC)
-
- But you can't add up the numbers by yourself, that would be original research. If there are really 21 million Romanians in the world, can't we find at least one source that say so? Khoikhoi 02:18, 9 December 2006 (UTC)
The threshold for inclusion in Wikipedia is verifiability, not truth. Just saying, "this is what it is" doesn't help. Khoikhoi 02:21, 9 December 2006 (UTC)
- Ok, I see what you mean now. You might consider adding your comments to Talk:Romanians. Cheers, Khoikhoi 02:30, 9 December 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Orphaned fair use image (Image:Barnutiu.jpg)
Thanks for uploading Image:Barnutiu.jpg. I notice the 'image' page currently specifies that the image is unlicensed for use on Wikipedia and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable under fair use (see our fair use policy).
If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. MECU≈talk 23:53, 18 January 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Population Numbers
- Hi. In response to your comment about the numbers of Romanians, I agree that the number includes 3'rd generation Romanians that now live in places other then Romania, Moldova, Vojvodina or Chernivtsi Oblast, however that 28 million is a figure that is backed by many, many sources, as you can see. And it is not clear from those sources that this number really includes non-ethnic Romanians. Nevertheless, I would have no problem changing that figure, however it is very important that the new figure is backed by a reliable reference (preferably two). If you could find one, please let me know and we will do the change, but so far, although I have tried, I could not find one. Also as you can see, right now we have a minimum number of 21.5 and a max, the 28 million. Personally I find that ok since it leaves room for the reader to judge which figure represents the real number. However, if you intend to erase the 28 million figure(the max), then the minimum (21.5) should go down too.
- Secondly, I do not want to touch the issue of the Moldovans. As you can see, right now, the table is very well done as it shows exactly the numbers of Moldovans and Timok Vlachs in brackets, with links provided for both groups in case the reader is curious to find out about the background of these two. There was a long ongoing dispute over these two issues and this formula was devised in order to please both the Neo-Stalinist view about a separate Moldovan identity as well as the view that Moldovans are a subgroup of Romanians. With the format existing right now, the reader has the freedom to judge for herself/himself what Moldovans are.

[edit] Image copyright problem with Image:Barnutiu.jpg
Thank you for uploading Image:Barnutiu.jpg. However, it currently is missing information on its copyright status. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously. It may be deleted soon, unless we can determine the license and the source of the image. If you know this information, then you can add a copyright tag to the image description page.
If you have any questions, please feel free to ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thanks again for your cooperation. User:Gay Cdn (talk) (Contr) 20:25, 27 January 2007 (UTC)

- Nope, that is not legit at all in fact. The Joshua project is totally not reliable - since they are obviously incorrect: even when you add people who reported that they are full-romanians, you get 21.5 mil (the minimum on the Romanians article) and that is not counting the Moldovans, which are Romanians (despite what the Stalinist-Voronist communist propaganda says). So if 21.5 million includes full Romanians, then the Joshua project is clearly wrong to report 21 mil. for 1/2 romanians as well. Cheers.Dapiks 22:25, 3 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] This needs to be solved
I have taken the "List of Companies" problem (what to do with an entire class of articles that get repeatedly submitted for deletion en mass?) for debate to two different places. This really needs to be solved once and for all (we can't keep debating the same stuff for eternity). Would you take a look at either the discussion on the Village Pump or the relevant wikiproject?
