User talk:Horst F JENS

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Hi Horst. You are doing a great job with the new articles. Welcome to Wikipedia. Hopefully you have found all the reserouces by now. Just to let you know that we don't normally sign articles, even if we created them. This is because they are common property as soon as you've written them.

Have fun.

Hi Horst. Nice to meet you. You're doing a great job, especially if English isn't your first language. I'd hate to be editing in anything other than English.

Signing is done when you are editing a 'talk' page. When you are having a discussion it really helps to know who said what, and when. We always encourage people to sign whatever they write there. However in articles everything is considered 'common property'. We don't sign what we write, because we don't want to think that we 'own' it in any way; someone might come along and change it later. Once an article has been in existence for more than a few days there are usually many people who have contributed to it. In some cases there may be nothing left of what the first author wrote.

What a lot of people do is put a list of articles that they have made big contributions to on their own user page. That gives you an idea of what a person has done here without claiming 'ownership'.

I hope you are finding out what you need to know. Feel free to ask lots of questions. Wikipedia:Village pump is useful if you can't find the answer anywhere else, or ask me or someone else. Enjoy your time here. DJ Clayworth 15:14, 16 Mar 2004 (UTC)

Hi Clayworth,
you are my first human contact at wikipedia, it is all a bit new to me. Why is this sign button on the wiki-editor if i should not use it ? is there a faq anywhere "when to sign and when not ?". another thing, i noted that the pictures look ugly if i make my browser window too small. is it advisabele to use html-tables for pictures, forcing the reader to have a given minimum browser width (640 pixel?) ?

[edit] Games name debate

Howdy Horst. We're currently undergoing a debate on the naming convention for various electronic games. (see Category talk:Computer and video games for details). I'd like to ask that you refrain from creating to many new categories that fall under the debateable section until it is settled. Be sure to stop in and vote! Oberiko 19:46, 20 Jun 2004 (UTC)

[edit] Copyright question.

Hi! I'm working on Wikipedia:Untagged Images, and came across Image:Dominions2 battle.png and Image:Dominions2 map.png, which you uploaded. They're game screenshots, which are fine, but the tag said that you additionally went and got permission to republish them. Do you know the terms of that agreement? Could you paste the relevant portions of the email you got from them here? It would make a difference for, for instance, Mandrakesoft, who will, I believe, not be publishing the fair-use images from Wikipedia in the static copy they'll be including in a future version of Mandrake Linux. grendel|khan 18:39, 2005 Feb 27 (UTC)

[edit] Category:Illwinter games has been superseded

Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on Category:Illwinter games, by another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because Category:Illwinter games has been superseded by a similar category (typos in name, expanding abbreviations, fixing capitalisation, renaming to comply with the "by country" format and conversions from singular to plural or vice versa). (CSD C2).

To contest the tagging and request that administrators wait before possibly deleting Category:Illwinter games, please affix the template {{hangon}} to the page, and put a note on its talk page. If the article has already been deleted, see the advice and instructions at WP:WMD. Feel free to contact the bot operator if you have any questions about this or any problems with this bot, bearing in mind that this bot is only informing you of the nomination for speedy deletion; it does not perform any nominations or deletions itself. [edit] Image copyright problem with Image:Horst JENS in Linz 2007.jpg

Image Copyright problem

Thank you for uploading Image:Horst JENS in Linz 2007.jpg. However, it currently is missing information on its copyright status. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously. It may be deleted soon, unless we can determine the license and the source of the image. If you know this information, then you can add a copyright tag to the image description page.

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thanks again for your cooperation. NOTE: once you correct this, please remove the tag from the image's page. STBotI (talk) 11:37, 8 February 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Image copyright problem with Image:CMBO Elipse big.png

Thanks for uploading Image:CMBO Elipse big.png. You've indicated that the image is being used under a claim of fair use, but you have not provided an adequate explanation for why it meets Wikipedia's requirements for such images. In particular, for each page the image is used on, the image must have an explanation linking to that page which explains why it needs to be used on that page. Can you please check

  • That there is a non-free use rationale on the image's description page for each article the image is used in.
  • That every article it is used on is linked to from its description page.

The following images also have this problem:
