[edit] Regarding the image Image:1010 Sanjay Gandhi.jpg

Hi. Saw that you uploaded this image, without specifying the source for where it was found. As the source is needed to determine the correct license, the image is now tagged as no-source, which means that it will be deleted in about a week unless the source is specified. Also, if you'd like some help in determining the various licenses, feel free to ask at my talkpage! Bjelleklang - talk 11:14, 3 January 2006 (UTC)

Thanks, added the source and fixed the license so the image won't be deleted. Bjelleklang - talk 17:04, 4 January 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Against Scientology templates

Do not circumvent the deletion review or the deletion. If you disagree that's fine but created a template that is solely a link (obviously no) and then another template which is more of the same but worse isn't going to help. Go to deletion review and talk about it. Or use one of the other means of communication, but don't do what you did. gren グレン 11:44, 10 January 2006 (UTC)

The template was deleted under speedy criterion by an admin and you tried to bypass that. The proper place to deal with it is deletion review. I don't exactly think all of the admins get along, although maybe you haven't noticed the proliferation of wheel wars lately. In any case the goal is not to promote free speech, it's to write an encyclopedia. For other established policies limiting free speech here see: WP:NPA, WP:CIV, WP:NLT, and WP:HAR. gren グレン 12:06, 10 January 2006 (UTC)
Well, They aren't governed by WP:NPOV. They are definitely governed by policies that users are governed by. That is why I linked those policies above. The reasoning of it being an attack page is probably controversial, however, civility is another reason why some users feel it should be deleted. In attempting to create a good working environment with all you don't want to create tension editors by attacking their faith / religion / ethnicity / etc. User pages are meant to help out with the encyclopedic effort. There is a great degree of leniency but the idea of templates in the forms of attacks have been grounds for admins deleting things. Tony Sidaway said when he deleted it that templates would be deleted but he wouldn't go so far as to remove the material from users pages. I don't think I would either. The issue is categories and templates institutionalizing certain ideologies. For they are not in the user space even if they are displayed there. gren グレン 12:26, 10 January 2006 (UTC)

Also, with your images Image:DSC 0326.jpg and Image:CharlieMorgan.JPG, want me to delete the low resolution one? Or, rename or whatnot? no sense in having two of the same image. gren グレン 12:27, 10 January 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Copyright violation

Hi, I noticed that you created the userbox Template:User against Saud. Obviously the legitimacy of the userbox is under dsicussion, but what is not under discussion is our copyright policy. You may not use images tagged as 'fair use' in userspace or tamplates. Please read WP:FUC and WP:FU before inserting any more images into wikipedia. I assume that you were not aware of this policy. --Doc ask? 22:15, 12 January 2006 (UTC)

Same goes for Template:User Chavez, and the corresponding image on your userpage. --Doc ask? 22:32, 12 January 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Fair use image

Hello! I noticed that you had Image:Jyllands-Posten Muhammad drawings.jpg shown on your user page. The image is uploaded under a fair use provision, and Wikipedia policy states that fair use images should not be displayed on any pages outside the main (article) namespace, including user pages. Would you mind removing the image or simply linking to it? (Add a ":" in from of the image, like this: [[:Image:Jyllands-Posten Muhammad drawings.jpg]]) Thanks a lot! [edit] Delegado Zero

This is in response to your comment on my talk page. No, I think it is normal and accepted to translate something like Delegado Zero to Delegate Zero on the english-language Wikipedia site. I also do not know if you are right that after Subcommandante Marcos changes his public name to Delegado Zero that we are supposed to "merge" the two into a single article. That's okay if you disagree with me, but I do not think you should state so strongly that you are right without referencing your comments with a Wikipedia guidelines or something. DanielM 22:23, 7 March 2006 (UTC)

I find it somewhat arrogant of you to delete the Delegate Zero page and all the information on it without discussing it on that page first. DanielM 22:32, 7 March 2006 (UTC)

Okay, I did see your link to the Wikipedia guideline that talks about redirects of alternative names. You backed up your position some now, so okay about the redirect part. In my opinion it may be appropriate to flip the redirects and make Delegate/Delegado Zero the primary article. That is the name he goes by now. I realize that this would require some work on the article and could be something of a jarring change, so I am not saying that has to be tackled now. Maybe after he has been known by that name for a while. DanielM 23:38, 7 March 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Yedinstvo

Thanks for the kind words! Russian political parties have always been prone to splitting into small groups quarreling over arcane issues. I would be surprised if anybody other than professional historians still remembered all these splits a hundred years after the fact. Keeping track of who offended whom, why the "recallists" expelled Alexander Bogdanov in 1911 and who Alexander Guchkov fought a duel with is an absolute nightmare, but I am trying to add this stuff to WP as time permits :) Ahasuerus 22:51, 20 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Speedily deleted template

Hello Horses In The Sky. Please note that I've deleted {{User against Saud 2}} under Criteria for speedy deletion T1 ("divisive and inflammatory"). Expressing a desire for large-scale executions may be offensive to many users, particularly that of a royal family. If you would like to contest this decision, please see deletion review. // [admin] Pathoschild (talk/map) 17:11, 28 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Chechnya

There are dozens of 'states' in the same position as Chechnya which do not qualify, so why should it? Chechnya has a secessionist movement which has proven to be unsuccessful like so many other movements--this does not qualify it for status as an unrecognized state.  OZLAWYER  talk  18:18, 1 May 2006 (UTC)

See List of active autonomist and secessionist movements for the many secessionist movements around the world. Also, as far as I know, there is not any appreciable autonomy in Chechnya. No more than many Russian federal republics, and less than some others.  OZLAWYER  talk  21:40, 1 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Request for Comments on Current events

Hello Horses In The Sky –

I'm trying to get some discussion going on two proposals regarding the current events page, but so far have gotten little to no response. Since you have recently edited the current events page, I'm asking for your input on these two proposals:

  • One proposal (this is the big one) involves putting the daily events from the current events pages into article-templates, a lá the monthly pages from 2003 to 2005, as well and having a consistent number of recent days on the current events page instead of a monthly archive. This would allow for the current events page and the respective month pages to be updated simultaneously without the monthly archival. For more, see the current events talk page.

Your input on one or both of these issues would be appreciated. joturner 22:32, 6 May 2006 (UTC)

I noticed you said "but this is a sad day indeed, the one thing the world does not need is more nations and it is a shame to see the dream of a multi-ethnic state finally collapse to the rampant power of sectarianism" about the independance of Montenegro, but also state in your user page that you want to see an independant Kurdistan and Western Saharra. Is there any reason that you view these as different? Rangeley 02:02, 22 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Unspecified source for Image:National flag.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:National flag.jpg. I notice the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you have not created this file yourself, then there needs to be a justification explaining why we have the right to use it on Wikipedia (see copyright tagging below). If you did not create the file yourself, then you need to specify where it was found, i.e., in most cases link to the website where it was taken from, and the terms of use for content from that page.

If the file also doesn't have a copyright tag, then one should be added. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Fair use, use a tag such as {{Non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair_use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. [edit] Fair use rationale for Image:RPPflag.gif

Thanks for uploading Image:RPPflag.gif. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. [edit] Orphaned non-free image (Image:Wuthering Heights.jpg)

Thanks for uploading Image:Wuthering Heights.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. [edit] Fair use rationale for Image:Pkk logo.gif

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:Pkk logo.gif. Suggestions on how to do so can be found here.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

[edit] Replaceable fair use Image:Annelise_hesme.jpg

Replaceable fair use

Thanks for uploading Image:Annelise_hesme.jpg. I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this image is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the image description page and edit it to add {{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original Replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace the fair use image by finding a freely licensed image of its subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or a similar) image under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our fair use criteria. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that fair use images which could be replaced by free-licensed alternatives will be deleted 7 days after this notification, per our Fair Use policy. [edit] Speedy deletion of Image:Nepal-Communist.jpg

A tag has been placed on Image:Nepal-Communist.jpg requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section I9 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the image appears to be a blatant copyright infringement. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted images or text borrowed from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines.
