Hortense Parker

Hortense Parker was the daughter of African American inventor, industrialist and abolitionist, John Parker.

Parker holds the distinction of being the first African American student to attend Mount Holyoke College [1]. She arrived to the campus 15 years after the end of the American Civil War and the Thirteenth Amendment in 1879 and graduated in 1883 [2].

Parker taught elementary school from 1906-1913/14 [3].
