Horace Abbott

Horace Abbott (1806-1887), was a noted iron American manufacturer. His work included the armor plating for the USS Monitor and all ships of that class.
He was born in Sudbury, Massachusetts, in 1806. He became the owner of Canton Iron Works in Baltimore, Maryland, which specialized in the production of steamboat and railroad components.
He also was the founder of Baltimore 1st National Bank, and a director of the 2nd National Bank of Baltimore and the Union Railroad of Baltimore, acquired by the Northern Central Railroad in 1882, eventually becoming part of the Pennsylvania Railroad.
