Hopewell High School (Pennsylvania)
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Hopewell High School sits on a hill at 1215 Longview Ave. in Aliquippa, Pennsylvania. Its current principal is Mr. Mike Allison. Its current vice-principal is Ms. Susan Kazmierczak. The school's athletic teams are known as the Vikings. Viking teams have held the following Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association championships: baseball, 1986; football, 2002; girls volleyball, 2004; girls basketball, 2006, 2007. Hopewell's girls volleyball team is a four-time defending champion in the Western Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic League.
Although HHS was given a Keystone Achievement Recognition award in 2007 (maintaining the correct AYP-Annual Yearly Progress) by the state of Pennsylvania, it currently has no visual communications, shop, or school-to-work program. Due to the current lack of available classes, most students sit in 1 to 3 study halls yearly.
This is due to recent budget cuts, under the guidance of Business Manager, Johannah Robb. Robb has been quoted by local newspaper The Beaver County Times stating that budget issues are caused by high teacher salaries.
[edit] Notable Alumni
Currently Hopewell has at least 5 former students that have made it into the NFL as football players. Bill Koman, Tony Dorsett, Kurt Singer and Dan Rains are former professional football players. Paul Posluszny was drafted in the 2007 NFL Draft.
