Hope Valley, Durham, North Carolina
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Hope Valley was Durham, North Carolina's first full-fledged country club suburb, developed around an 18-hole golf course right before the stock market crash of 1929. It was designed to be "right past" the end of the trolley line so that only people owning cars would live there.
The golf course was designed by Donald Ross and recently has undergone a multi-million dollar renovation and restoration.
The neighborhood is experiencing infill as retiring and moving neighbors sell their sidelots and investment properties. There have also been some (tragic) examples of "tear down" purchases.
The Hubert Teer House is well known for the exact miniature model of it that Mr. Teer built on the grounds as a playhouse for his daughter. It has recently undergone an enormously expensive and beautiful restoration.
The golf course is known for having a member of the Crichton family on staff from the club's beginning to today.
