"Honey" is a song by Erykah Badu, released as the first single from her album New Amerykah Part One (4th World War). The song was produced by 9th Wonder, and samples "I'm in Love" by Nancy Wilson And "We Made Love In The Room" by Tweet. It is believed that rapper André 3000 references this song in Big Boi's new single "Royal Flush" (...the bees call me 'Honey', Hollywood calls me back...), referring to Andre and Erykah's past affair.
[edit] Music video
The song is interrupted by a video-in-a-video, as an excerpt of "Annie", recorded by Badu’s super-group side project Edith Funker, plays on the store's video screen. The video is set in a record store, from the perspective of a customer browsing the racks. The various records shown are parodies of popular records which feature altered titles and Badu portraying the artist instead. The album sleeves shown are:
- Diana Ross - Blue
- Eric B. & Rakim - Paid in Full
- De La Soul - 3 Feet High and Rising
- Minnie Riperton - Perfect Angel
- Grace Jones - Nightclubbing
- Nas - Illmatic
- Ohio Players - Honey
- Labelle - Chameleon
- Rufus - Rufus featuring Chaka Khan
- Funkadelic - Maggot Brain
- The Beatles - Let It Be
- Olivia Newton-John - Physical
- Earth Wind and Fire - Head to the Sky
In the video, she also spoofs ex-boyfriend André 3000 of OutKast's "Hey Ya!" video, changing the green set for a pink one. There is also a parody of the Rolling Stone magazine's cover with John Lennon and Yoko Ono, entitled "Riding My Hip".
