The song describes a couple who is about to divorce. In the beginning of the song, the man asks the woman to write down a list of what she wants (in other words, the physical belongings owned by the couple). Instead of listing objects, however, she writes down what she wants from the man:
- "Honesty, sincerity, tenderness and trust
- A little less time for the rest of the world
- And more for the two of us
- Kisses each morning, 'I love you's at night
- Just like it used to be
- The way life was when you were in love with me."
[edit] Music video
This video starts out with a couple putting souvenirs away in a box, with the woman crying. The man then goes to put the box away. The scene then switches to Rodney singing in a park, standing beside an old pickup truck. The wife is then seen, watching how the couple got married, on tape. The husband and wife are then seen, on TV, playing in a grass field.
The second verse features Rodney singing in a movie theater beside the screen showing the couple, and the wife placing a napkin in her husband's hand. The husband then gave her a ring, but she was seen leaving the room afterwards. The husband is then seen putting souvenirs in a box. He was then seen sitting on a staircase, opening up the napkin his wife gave him, and found, "Honesty, Sincerity, Tenderness, Trust" written on it. The husband then kissed his wife while she was getting a makeover. The wife was still watching the tape, as her husband got off the staircase and took the napkin with him.
The husband fought back tears and looked in his wife's eyes, while putting the box of souvenirs away. Later, he left with the new car, while his wife was still in bed, crying.
