Honda Hirotaka

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Honda Hirotaka (本多広孝? 1528 - February 3, 1598) was a retainer of the Tokugawa clan throughout the late Sengoku period of Feudal Japan. Being the son of Honda Nobushige--and thus a direct relative to the famed right-hand warrior of Tokugawa, Tadakatsu--Hirotaka supported Tokugawa Ieyasu most notably during the Battle of Nagashino in 1575, following with an initial besiegement of Inui Castle of Totomi Province a year into the future. By the time at which Ieyasu was the center of command during the Komaki Campaign of 1584, Hirotaka was specifically designated to enforce the defenses of Kobata Castle -- an action that allowed Hirotaka a high level of repute after succeeding in this attempt. However, as it was essential for Ieyasu to establish good relations with Toyotomi Hideyoshi following the latter's defeat at Komaki, Hirotaka and other respective retainers beneath the Tokugawa were sent as supporters in the Kyushu Campaign in 1587. Within this campaign, Hirotaka won a level of distinction as he valiently assaulted Ganjaku castle of Buzen Province, returning from the invasion of Kyushu with a new handful amount of praise from Hideyoshi and other supporters. Hirotaka died in 1598.
