[edit] Structure

[edit] Naming

 • Articles should be named "Ohio State Highway n" (where n = route number).
 • Route shield SVG's are named "OH-n.svg" and are complete for active routes.

[edit] Infobox

The Infobox to use for this project is the Template:Infobox road template.

This is the basic syntax you need to get a complete infobox on the article page, just place this before any other text and fill in the variables.

State Route 14
Length: 81.2 mi[1] (130.7 km)
Formed: 1924
West end: US 6/ US 20 in Cleveland
Major
junctions:
I-90 in Cleveland
I-77 in Cleveland
I-80/OH Tpk. in Streetsboro
I-76 near Ravenna
East end: PA 51 near East Palestine
Counties: Cuyahoga, Summit, Portage, Mahoning, Columbiana
Ohio highways
< SR 13 SR 15 >
Interstates - U.S. Routes - State Routes

For the above parameters here's what you should fill in:

 • state: OH.
 • type: SR for state routes.
 • route: This is the number of the route the article is featuring.
 • length_mi: This is the length of the route in miles. If you specify beyond integers (i.e. add a decimal value) you will need to set the following paramater, length_round.
 • length_round: If your value for length_mi is a whole number, you can omit this. Otherwise it needs to be set to the decimal precision of the length_mi paramater.
 • length_ref: To do what a good article writer should, provide your reference for the length of the route using standard .
 • established: This is the year the route was commissioned or assigned to its current alignment.
 • direction_a: This should be either south or west to keep in accordance with the U.S. Roads parent project, which lists termini and junctions in progression travelling from West to East and South to North.
 • starting_terminus: This is where the route begins and is either at the southern terminus or western terminus. The template N can be used as a shortcut for entering Ohio shields. N=route number and YY is the size of the shield in pixels – 20 for 1- and 2-digit routes, and 25 for 3-digit shields.
 • junction: Only junctions with 2-digit interstates along the route should be listed here. If more than one junction is listed, use a <br> to break the lines. If the interstate is multiplexed with another route, the other routes can be included.
 • direction_b: The opposite of direction_a.
 • ending_terminus: where the route ends, in accordance with the guidelines set forth with starting_terminus.
 • counties: a list of counties that the route enters, separated by commas.
 • previous_type: SR (currently, this project is only including state routes in the browse portion of the infobox).
 • previous_route: The number of the route preceding this one.
 • next_type: Same as previous_type but for the route following this one.
 • next_route: The number of the route succeeding this one.

So, by completing the infobox as follows, you'll get a routebox like the one to the right.

[edit] Main section

Untitled section that describes the route. Depending on the route this section may just name the direction (W/E or S/N) and termination points, or may go into more detail.

[edit] Cities and villages along route

A section containing a list of cities and villages along the route, from south to north and/or west to east. Municipalities that have their own articles should be “wikified” to link to those articles (these are generally incorporated municipalities). Municipalities that do not have their own articles (generally unincorporated) may also be listed depending on their importance.

[edit] Junctions

This section is for listing all of the intersections, both actual junctions and over/underpasses, that this route has with Ohio traffic routes (1-872), Interstates and U.S. routes.

This is the basic syntax you need to get a complete junction table on the article page, just place this in the Junctions section and fill in the variables.

OHinttop

OHintbtm

For additional entries, use this:

For the above parameters, here's what you should fill in:

Heading What to Enter
county name of county – automatically coded for Blank; just enter county name.
cspan number of rows this county spans.
location municipality – use for municipalities such as Municipality, where the municipality has its own article (incorporated cities and villages); just enter the municipality name.
location_special use in place of location field to enter townships if they have associated articles as Name Township, or to enter the text to be displayed for municipalities that do not have their own associated articles.
lspan number of rows this location spans.
mile milepost to the nearest 1/10th.
type noaccess – for highways that cross but have no actual junction
mplex – for concurrencies
decomd – for intersections with decommissioned routes or segments
unbuilt – for planned junctions
closed – for indefinite closures (not temporary)
road intersecting road(s) at this junction. To generate the proper coding, use , where
• XX = OH (Ohio), US (U.S. Route), or IN (interstate)
• Y = route or interstate number (1 to 3 digits)
• ZZ = size of shield in pixels (20 or 25)
Notes:
• Multiple routes at one intersection can be entered by inserting a <br> and then entering another template.
• Intersections with multiplexed routes or complex intersections can be entered manually by not using the template, and entering the links to the road articles below the shields after a line break <br>. It’s preferred to enter multiplexes manually so that the shields are side-by-side, but not required.
notes any notes regarding this junction.

Any field which is empty can be omitted. Junctions which are approximately 0.1 mile apart may be combined into one entry in the table.

See Ohio State Highway 14 for an example of how the table is used.

[edit] Points of interest

Major attractions along the road, such as institutions of higher learning and recreation areas.

[edit] History

History of the route. This can be as brief as a sentence or as extensive as a few paragraphs or a list by year. Items must be referenced (as described in the length_ref portion of the Infobox section above).

[edit] Miscellanea

Put all oddities, miscellanea, etc. here, such as recent projects to improve/upgrade the road, the road in popular culture, etc.

[edit] Sources

<references/> pulls all the references in the article to a list here.

[edit] External links

Links regarding the entire highway go here. These should be different than the links that are referenced in Sources or any other section.

[edit] Categorize article

No heading for this section in the article. Place this text – – at the bottom of each article, where nnn is the route number (use leading zeros for routes 1-99).
