King Edward II of England. The bottom scene depicts his death, by having an intensely heated plumber’s iron shoved into his anus after his deposition and imprisonment. Whether he died in this way has been called into question; see Edward II captivity and death.

It was part of a plot to depose him filled with symbolism over his homosexuality. The bottom scene depicts his death.
