Homochitto National Forest
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Homochitto National Forest is a U.S. National Forest in southwestern Mississippi and is comprised of 189,000 acres (760 kmĀ²). In the mid-1930s, the Civilian Conservation Corp (CCC) began reforestation of the area and developing a system of roadways and recreational areas. In descending order of land area the forest is located in parts of Franklin, Amite, Wilkinson, Adams, Jefferson, Lincoln, and Copiah counties. The forest is headquartered in Jackson, as are all six National Forests in Mississippi, but there are local ranger district offices located in Meadville.
