"Homecoming" is the twelfth track and the fifth single taken from Kanye West's album Graduation. The song was released in the United Kingdom as the fourth single, instead of "Flashing Lights" which served as the fourth single in the rest of the world. The song was released as the fifth single in the U.S. on May 13, 2008. It has been released in the UK as a download release and was due to be released as a physical single on 4 February 2008.[1]. However, the CD single was cancelled due to downloads starting to decline before the release. It was, however, released on vinyl single on 18 February. "Homecoming" reached Number 9 on the UK Singles Chart on download sales.[2] The song also features vocals by lead singer Chris Martin from Coldplay and is no longer on the[3] A-List on the BBC Radio 1 Playlist. Some of the lyrics were taken from Common's "I Used to Love H.E.R. (Hip Hop in its Essence and Real)."
The song's lyrics were originally recorded by West with John Legend singing a different hook with the song called "Home" (which was circulated on the mixtape Freshmen Adjustment). However, the Legend version was cut in favour of Martin's, which West and he worked on together at Abbey Road Studios in 2006.
