Home Builders Association of Northern California
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Home Builders Association of Northern California (HBANC) is an industry advocacy association comprising approximately 1,000 companies in the home building industry. The Political Action Committee (PAC) of HBANC identifies and supports through political contributions the political campaigns of state and local politicians who have been determined by HBANC PAC to be supportive to the economic and political interests of the California building industry. HBANC PAC also participates in local, regional and state issue campaigns and ballot measures that are deemed consistent with the objectives of HBANC.
HBANC has come under criticism from environmentalists due to HBANC’s filing of a lawsuit claiming that the Endangered Species Act is being used by environmentalists to hinder development and economic growth. To which environmentalists have argued that the position argued by HBANC is unsupportable by facts, namely studies by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service that state that only 0.9 percent of housing development slated over the next 20 years is potentially affected by the critical habitat designation for the California Red-legged Frog, which was a specific endangered species named in the HBANC lawsuit for a possible downgrading of it's endangered status under the Endangered Species Act.
