'Home After Three Months Away' is a poem by Robert Lowell which appeared in his book Life Studies; it is one of several 'confessional' poems in the book which stands at the beginning of the Confessional poetry movement.

The poem was written after Lowell started returning home for weekends from thee McLean Hospital in Belmont, Boston in early 1958.[1] Lowell was finally released from McLean in June 1959.[2]

Ian Hamilton suggests that the poem owes something to W. D. Snodgrass's 'Heart's Needle.[3]
