[edit] Vandalism
Too many people found out about this, and are now completely messing up the articles, by either SPAM or calling out teachers or using inside jokes. We need to get this page locked no non-registered users for protection against that. I just erased some I came across, but it's happened plenty of times.Tommy 16:18, 13 January 2007 (UTC)
Vandalism is becoming excessive, and people seem to enjoy being tough on Wikipedia. It's really worthless, guys. Just stop. :\ Tommy 04:51, 27 January 2007 (UTC)
As the person who started the page...I feel its my responsibility to continue to destroy what you are trying to do. This all started when the page I made was changed. So the "Vandalism" will continue. - Ryan
That's too bad. You should just contribute nicely rather than vandalize. Tommy 04:51, 27 January 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Total Revamp
This entire page needs to be pretty much or completely rewritten. This is an encyclopedia, not a place to advertise for the school. The place for that is the school's personal website. As it is, this article is incredibly POV.
[edit] Suggested Changes
After discussion with some other people we feel the sports section is biased. It focuses on very few of the schools sports, primarily the successful ones. Again, this is not an advertisement. If this page is your baby then fix it. If it's not fixed by the end of the week then I will change it so it just lists sports and not their season records. In order to make this fair you should include the records for each team in the school as well as their coach and division. If changes aren't done by the end of weak I will significantly edit the section. - SWH 4/207
If want changes made, I'd suggest you be a bit more professional than that. Please log in, and I'll work with you on how we can make it less POV. No need to get angry. Signed by Tommy (Talk/Contribs) 18:42, 3 April 2007 (UTC)
I'm logged in. I would like you to point out my lack of professionalism and I apologize if my last request came off as a tad angry, but there was no intention to do so. It seems that POV has been a constant issue, so much so that there is a heading on the page. I plan on getting that removed. People have taken issue on the sports section and you have said that you don't have much information on it. I think for the purposes of what we are trying to do here just a list of teams, divisions, and coaching staff would be sufficient. I also stated that this page was your baby and you have made it very clear that you are in charge. I can appreciate that since you are a student. However, if you want to be in charge of this little project you need to make changes that people request. I can go on and on about the philosophy of wikipedia and the various problems and benefits of it but this is not the proper venue. Basically, when the majority of people want a change or believe that there is a problem then it should be noted and corrected. The vandalism issue has been stopped and I think now it's time to tackle the POV issue. This needs to change before any other changes can occur otherwise the very foundation of the project is flawed and thus the whole project is flawed. I'm sure you understand. I don't mean to get or sound angry with you, I just feel that you are making the page more of a website for the school rather than an entry in an encyclopedia. Also you asked me to log in. The reason I was able to post without logging in was because wikipedia allows me to do so. If you wish to create rules that people need to abide by then feel free try to set them up, but when I look at this page I see no rule saying I must be logged in. Wikipedia allows anyone to change anything for a reason and I feel it's best to respect that very basic philosophy of the project. From time to time I will not be able to log in but in the interest of accountability I will always sign my posts. SHartery 21:25, 3 April 2007 (UTC) SWH
Oh, thanks for cooperating. I have no issues with anyone editing, feel free. I was actually looking for someone who wasn't a student to correct me if it was too POV, so I appreciate your help. Feel free to make any changes you deem necessary. Also, I asked you to log in just to be sure you were legit. Just a precaution. :] Signed by Tommy (Talk/Contribs) 01:53, 4 April 2007 (UTC)
If you don't want to explain why the notable alumni are notable then don't have the section. This is not an advertisement, it is a reference. If your going to have information here have all the information. DO NOT take out things that make the school look bad.I will remove the section until an agreement can be made. -SWH
There are a number of parts of the article that need to be changed. Some of them are small issues with wording, while other parts simply need to be taken out altogether. I plan on dealing with the introduction tonight, but there's a lot to be fixed here. The sports section may have to be taken out entirely untill someone bothers to find some information that isn't so obviously POV. I'm actually not sure whether or not it's considered POV to selectively include information the way it does in the sports section (showing our winning teams but leaving out losing teams, etc.) Still, talking about how the team lost 'important players' and whatnot is clearly out.
The 'Extracurricular Activities' section is currently a waste of space - if it's important that the information about charity work be there, a charity section should be created.
Basically, here's what I'm planning - the sports section will stay for now untill I can find out more about sports at Holy Cross - I'm not an athlete or a fan myself so I don't really pay attention to them, but it's easy enough to find out more. Otherwise, I'm going to start with the introduction, which is a mess, and go from there.
As a final note, the above post (about the total revamp) is mine as well - I forgot to sign. --Tristechan 22:21, 21 December 2006 (UTC)
As the sports program sounds like a total POV dispute, it really isn't. HCHS is known for winning pretty much everything, and I'm working on getting more information on the sports that we aren't good at. And I understand what you mean about advertisement in a way, it's still valid information, and the "state of the art" but was commentated not by the school, but from reviewers. Also, do you mind meeting up with me at school so we can discuss this in person rather than having this turn into an edit war. Homeroom 208. Tommy. Thanks.Tommy 03:00, 22 December 2006 (UTC)
I know that much of it is valid information, and I plan on leaving it there if it is. The sports thing isn't really a huge issue for me - it's more the specific language used that's getting to me, but that can be fixed easily enough. That and the fact that you're using the names of students - I'm not sure that's even legal since they are all minors. I know that for newspapers you need to have permission, so this should be similar.
As for talking IRL, I'd prefer to have the discussion stay here. I'll hold off editing untill we reach an agreement. --Tristechan 13:13, 22 December 2006 (UTC)
I understand. It was my fault for releasing this article until it was completely finished. I suppose I can write the articles and you can edit them so they're neutral. Sound like a plan? Also, I was unaware of saying names is illegal. If they have to be removed, that is no problem at all. Tommy 15:40, 22 December 2006 (UTC)
Original page looks correct to me. I had two children attend the school and it's a great place for kids to get an education participate in sports/arts.... —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 69.118.168.98 (talk) 03:28, August 24, 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Start of a big project
[edit] Beginning
I've pretty much remade the entire article, going from the previous article but slowly building onto it. I'm not finished, so more will be to come. Tommy 15:44, 11 December 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Update
- It's coming along nicely. Being a current student definitely helps me. It's be done completely in about a week. Tommy 15:49, 19 December 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Advert tag vs POV
Tommy, I don't remember seeing anything about needing to be logged in to edit pages (unless they're locked), so your request to not place an advert tag is unwarranted. Not sure what you mean by integrity, but it seems to point to you taking this all personally. Please don't. The article reads like a brochure for the school. Something should be done about this, hence the tag.
POV is a different matter entirely. I realize that you'd like to think it's the same since the advert tag is cluttering up "your" article. But please read the policy pages for the two, you will see how they differ. 24.151.17.99
Sorry, didn't mean for it to sound like I was. I'd rather have you clean up what you see as "advertising" rather than placing the tag and running off. Anyways, I'd be glad to remove any advertising if you can pinpoint me to the specific area(s). And I'm well aware between the different between advert and POV, but without explanation, it's useless. SO, if you are concerned, I'll work with you to get rid of advertisement. Thanks. Signed by Tommy (Talk/Contribs) 18:37, 5 June 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Fair use rationale for Image:Hcseal2.gif
Image:Hcseal2.gif is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.
Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.
If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.
