Holy Spirit Preparatory School

Holy Spirit Preparatory School is an independent, Roman Catholic preparatory school located in Atlanta, Georgia and was established in 1996. It is located in the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Atlanta. The 730+ students in Preschool through 6th grade are located on a multi-acre site at 4820 Long Island Drive while the Preschool program is located at 4465 Northside Drive on the lower level of Holy Spirit Catholic Church adjacent to the 57,000 sq ft (5,300 m²) Upper School campus which opened in the fall of 2004. The 1st graduating class of 22 students received offers from over 70 colleges and in excess of $2,700,000 in academic scholarship offers.[citation needed] It is led by its president Mr. Gareth Genner.

[edit] Curriculum

Holy Spirit Preparatory School offers a full-scale Classical curriculum in both Greek and Latin, Catholic Theology as well as typical college preparatory subjects. The Classics program is of major significance in support of the educational mission of the Catholic Church to provide informed Church historians, theologians and apologists. Holy Spirit Preparatory School also has a house system. There are four houses, each named after Ecumenical Councils. The houses are: House of Chalcedon, House of Trent, House of Lyons, and House of Nicaea. Each house has its own mascot and color.


House of Chalcedon: Cerberus- Purple
House of Trent: Dragon- Blue
House of Lyons: Lion- Orange
House of Nicaea: Eagle- Red

It was recently noted as one of the top 50 Catholic High Schools in the country. Its athletics program has been very strong in three areas. Soccer has had a strong showing since the beginning of the school, last year the Varsity team was runner up in the state competition. Cross Country and track have both had a strong showing on both Region and state levels. The Junior High Cross Country team had it's entire team qualify within the top 20 seeds for the State competition. Track has had many state titles won for the school. Stats for track could not be reached. Additionally, in 2007 both the Varsity Golf and Football Teams won their respective Region Championships.
