Holy Hill monastery, Breedon
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Holy Hill monastery at Breedon on the Hill in Leicestershire was founded as a Benedictine abbey by King Aethelred in 675. It was dissolved in 874, possibly following an attack by the Danes.
The monastery was refounded in about 1120 as the Augustinian Breedon Priory.
A significant series of Saxon sculptures from the original abbey survive in the present church.
