Holsten Trophy

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Holsten Trophy is a Group 3 flat horse race in Germany for three-year-old and above thoroughbreds. It is run over a distance of 1,200 metres (approximately 6 furlongs) at Hamburg-Horn Racecourse, Hamburg in late June or early July.

It was first run in 1966 over its present distance, increasing to 1,400 metres in 1974 and reverting to 1,200 metres in 1989. The race has held Group 3 status since 1985 and had several title changes before it was named the Holsten Trophy in 1992. Earlier titles had included the Cognac-Hennessy-Rennen (1983-84), the American Express-Preis (1985-87) and the De Kuyper-Preis (1988-91). Since 2005 it has been run as the LOTTO-Trophy.
