Hollywood Left

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Hollywood Left is a pejorative term used to describe the politically active liberal or left-wing segment of the Hollywood-based entertainment industry.

Right-wing commentators have claimed the existence of a mailing list, developed during the 2004 U.S. presidential campaign, that includes the names of left-wing actors, stars, and celebrities from Hollywood. The list is alleged to include Michael Moore, Jodie Foster, Meg Ryan, Drew Barrymore, Danny DeVito, the Osbornes and Ellen DeGeneres, Matthew Perry, Billy Crystal, Sharon Stone, Bill Maher, Martin Sheen and many others. The purported goal of the mailing list was to get George W. Bush out of office.[citation needed]

The phrase is also used more generally to refer to the supposed left-wing bias of the American entertainment industry.
