Hollywood Derby
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Hollywood Derby is an American Thoroughbred horse race for three-year-old horses on the turf run each year in December at Hollywood Park Racetrack in Inglewood, California. Set at a distance of one and one-quarter miles, the Derby was on a hiatus in 2005 due to the poor condition of the Hollywood Park turf course. The purse for this Grade I event is usually $500,000 USD.
The Hollywood Derby held its 67th running in 2006.
The great filly Busher won this race in 1945. Riva Ridge took it in 1972, Affirmed in 1978, Flying Paster (California Horse of the Year) in 1979, and De La Rose in 1981.
